ALTERNATIVE ENERGY PROGRAMS FOR SMALL BUSINESS
Minimize

The 2009 economic stimulus package contains significant measures to improve and expand domestic energy infrastructure as a path to recovery.  Overall, nearly 10% of the entire bill provides funding and tax credits for green energy related projects.  $11 billion in spending and loan guarantees to build a “smart grid” to move renewable electricity supplies and build 3,000 miles (4,800 km) of transmission lines.  The big barrier to an alternative energy future is getting the renewable energy power through the grid and/or stored in batteries, so it’s no surprise that it receives most of the funding.

The federal government regularly funds research into solar power, wind power, wave power, biomass power, and other alternative energy sources.  The Illinois Black Chamber of Commerce is embarking on several wind energy projects at this time.  The Chamber believes that the "green" agenda presents signficiant new opportunities for small businesses.  One key element to our participation is EDUCATION  - WE MUST RETRAIN OUR COMPANIES AND OURSELVES TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE 'GREEN' TECHNOLOGIES.

The following video represents the President's view on the importance of alternative energy initiatives.
